The Szent István University organized this year’s specialised translators’ day on 22 January. Two of LEG’s colleagues participated in the event.
The morning session focused on the teaching of terminology in the training of specialised translators. University teachers described how terminology is taught to students of translation studies at their institution. Also in this section József Villányi (head of the Hungarian Department, DGT) discussed the characteristics and challenges of translation EU legal documents.
The afternoon session hosted two talks and a round table discussion on terminology management in the practice of companies and translation agencies. The first talk was held by Andrea Faludi, LEGs terminologist and project manager, who talked about library databases that could be a useful resource when translating. Next, Jenő Demeczky (IBM Hungary) demonstrated how accelerating technical development influences a translation workflow and the role in terminology it the process. In the round table discussion Eszter Papp (LEG Zrt.), Ildikó Csőkör (AUDI Akademie Hungaria Kft.), Adrienn Vági-Benyó (BOSCH) and László Turcsán (Mercedes-Benz) talked about the everyday terminology work done at their company. The general conclusion was that terminology management is most effective if the manufacturing company employs a specialised expert, who can prepare the document for translation and support the whole translation process.
